African fashion (Nigeria @ 60)

 Nigerian fashion has been in existence many years ago. The most popular clothing material in Nigeria is the ANKARA.

ANKARA is widely worn by many nigerians and not just worn but also used in making other fashionable stuffs like Bags, Earings and Shoes.

     YORUBA FASHION/ATTIRES



The yoruba's have peculiar types of clothes that make them distinct from other cultures. They have ASO IBILE, the traditional clothes of various type and shades. Both male and female have different types and it is ana aberration then for man to wear a woman's clothes and vice versa.



The yoruba's wear modern clothing like shirt and trousers, skirt and blouses, suits, gowns that are all borrowed from the Europeans.


      IGBO FASHION/ATTIRE

Traditionally the attire of the igbo generally consisted of little clothing as the purpose of clothing then was to conceal private parts, although elders where fully clothed. Children where usually nude from birth till their adolescence. With colonialism and the westernization of igbo culture, western styled clothes such as shirts and trousers over took traditional clothing.



Igbo women do not cover their chest areas. Maidens usually wore a short wrapper with beads around their waist with other ornaments such as necklace and beads.



Igbo men would always wear loin cloths that wrapped around their waist and between their legs to be fastened at their back. Men could also tie a wrapper over their loin cloth.


      HAUSA FASHION/ATTIRE

The hausa's were famous throughout the middle ages for their cloth weaving and dyeing, cotton goods, leather working and exports of such goods throughout the west African region.



The traditional dress of the Hausa consist of lose flowing gowns and trousers the gowns have wide openings on both sides for ventilatio. The trousers are loose at the top and center, but rather tight around the legs. Leather sandals and turbans are also typical.
